CORPORATE WIFE? GIVE ME A BREAK

Below is an outstanding piece written by my friend Penny Nance, who heads up Concerned Women For America. It addresses Fox News correspondent Juan Williams comments about Ann Romney coming across as nothing more than a "corporate wife" during her speech at the Republican National Convention. No further introduction is needed since Penny sums it up so well. Maybe it's the fact that we just have too many professional commentators who simply must comment on every little detail at a moment's notice, but the comments by Fox News' Juan Williams following Ann Romney's speech yesterday were just not appropriate and, as a woman, I feel must not go unaddressed. I like Juan Williams as a commentator, he's a really nice guy, but I think he got this one wrong. Commenting on her performance, Williams said she looked, "like a corporate wife."  A corporate wife?  What in the world was he talking about? What could Ann Romney have done not to look like a "corporate wife?" Would a little less make up do it? Maybe if she would have worn her hair in a pony tail? I've got it. Maybe she could have worn jeans and a Planned Parenthood t-shirt. Would that have done it? [...]

Romney Narrows VP List; Wife Says Female Name May Surface

Beth Myers may not be a household name to most Americans, but around the Romney kitchen table she is front and center. The reason: she is the person charged with finalizing the list of potential vice presidential nominees and insiders say the list is getting shorter by the day. Political analysts and insiders close to the Romney campaign say some of the names penciled in toward the top of the list include former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, Ohio Sen. Rob Portman, Rep. Paul Ryan (Wis.) and Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal. Others names still being knocked around are Florida Sen. Marco Rubio and Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell. However, Ann Romney, wife of the soon-to-be Republican nominee says her husband is also considering a female running mate. "We've been looking at that, and I'd love that option as well," Ann Romney told CBS News during an interview at the couple's New Hampshire vacation home. "There's a lot of people that Mitt is considering right now." Legal pads that contain the names of potential running mates change quite often during the months preceding the nominee's convention. For example, Barack Obama's short list in 2008 contained not only the name of Sen. Joe Biden [...]

Ann Romney Doesn’t Consider Herself ‘Wealthy;’ Cites Compassion From Her Disease

Ann Romney, the wife of GOP front-runner Mitt Romney, said Monday that she didn't consider herself wealthy, and as someone suffering from multiple sclerosis, she now has more compassion for others who are suffering. "[O]ne thing this disease has been for me has been a wonderful teacher," Mrs. Romney said during an interview on Fox News. "And with that comes an ability for compassion for others that are suffering from M.S. or cancer or any disease I feel like I want to throw my arms open and say, welcome to my family and welcome to the place where I've been and, so you know, we can be poor in spirit and I don't look – I don't even consider myself wealthy which is an interesting thing. It can be here today and gone tomorrow…" Moments after the candidate's wife made the comments, media sites including Twitter and blog posts began circulating her comment about not being wealthy. Think Progress, an ultra-liberal website, first reported the story.
