The 2009 legislative session is now nearing the end. In January of this year I was appointed by Lt. Governor Ron Ramsey to as Chairman of the Senate Commerce, Labor and Agriculture Committee. We had almost 400 bills assigned to our committee and passed several pro-business bills. Just as important, we were able to defeat many bills that would have negatively impacted economic activity within our state.

Many states, including Tennessee are facing financial challenges this year. Tennessee currently has a projected shortfall of approximately $1.1 billion. Our Republican majority in the Senate is working hard to insure our Governor produces a responsible and balanced budget.
