Evangelist Wrong to Encourage Christians to Write In ‘Jesus’ for President

On Monday one of my other colleagues at The Christian Post, Alex Murashko, wrote a story on Internet evangelist Bill Keller’s campaign to get Christians to write in “Jesus” for president this year. That is certainly an insult to our Lord and Savior. I discovered that Alex was writing the story during our early morning intranet chat between reporters and editors. I immediately responded to Alex by writing the following sentence: “Why would Jesus want to be President of the United States? He is already God over the entire Universe.” Here is the link to the story. My friend thought my quote would be perfect for his story and wanted to know if he had my permission to use it. But Alex and I knew he couldn’t since I am a fellow editor/reporter and it’s not good journalism to get a quote from a colleague sitting next to you (well, not literally because I am in Tennessee and Alex lives in California). Keller tries to make the point that Christians should not vote for either President Obama or his GOP opponent Mitt Romney. That is not an issue I’m going to tackle here because I don’t necessarily agree with his [...]

Romney Narrows VP List; Wife Says Female Name May Surface

Beth Myers may not be a household name to most Americans, but around the Romney kitchen table she is front and center. The reason: she is the person charged with finalizing the list of potential vice presidential nominees and insiders say the list is getting shorter by the day. Political analysts and insiders close to the Romney campaign say some of the names penciled in toward the top of the list include former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, Ohio Sen. Rob Portman, Rep. Paul Ryan (Wis.) and Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal. Others names still being knocked around are Florida Sen. Marco Rubio and Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell. However, Ann Romney, wife of the soon-to-be Republican nominee says her husband is also considering a female running mate. "We've been looking at that, and I'd love that option as well," Ann Romney told CBS News during an interview at the couple's New Hampshire vacation home. "There's a lot of people that Mitt is considering right now." Legal pads that contain the names of potential running mates change quite often during the months preceding the nominee's convention. For example, Barack Obama's short list in 2008 contained not only the name of Sen. Joe Biden [...]

Tea Party ‘Puts Candidates on Notice’ After Court Rules on Obamacare

Within minutes after the U.S. Supreme Court released its ruling upholding the individual mandate of the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare, Tea Party leaders were announcing an all-out effort to reinvigorate their troops to elect a president and Congress members who promise to repeal the controversial health care law. "The Supreme Court ruled against the American people today," Jenny Beth Martin, co-founder and national coordinator of Tea Party Patriots, told The Christian Post. "The American people overwhelming oppose Obamacare. Now more than ever it is time for the American people to band together and take our government back. Americans agree with what Justice Kennedy said in the dissenting opinion that 'the entire Act before us is invalid in its entirety.'" Yet Martin and other Tea Party leaders are also firing shots over the bow of the Republican fleet as a warning that even incumbents or candidates running under a conservative banner would be ousted unless they pledge to repeal the controversial healthcare program. "Mr. Romney, Mr. Boehner: the American people are putting you on notice. You both promised to fully repeal Obamacare. We will hold you to your promises. We are putting all politicians on notice that we [...]

Romney, Santorum Not Backing Down on Religious Freedom Debate

GOP frontrunners Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum are continuing to pressure President Obama on issues of religious freedom, and they apparently have the support of conservative political pundits. Grove City College political science professor, Dr. Paul Kengor, in an email interview with The Christian Post said the reason Santorum and the other GOP leaders were standing firm in defending religious freedom, it was because Democrats were forcing the issue. “He's being led by President Obama into this issue,” wrote Kengor. “Rick Santorum, like tens of millions of committed Roman Catholics and evangelicals, has been pushed into this arena by President Obama, compliments of the HHS mandate.” “Like the Catholic Church generally, from the bishops to the laity, he didn't ask for this fight. The fight came to him. He and other Catholics simply want the freedom of conscience they've always had in this nation -- until President Obama assaulted them with this executive decree. Obama's fiat was handed down from the mountaintop in Washington, a commandment to Catholics with no room for compromise.” The religious freedom issue became front and center when President Obama announced a mandate by saying that employers were required to provide free birth control to all [...]

Rick Santorum, Jeremy Lin, Attribute Success to Faith in Christ

It’s often said American’s love an underdog in sports and politics. If that’s the case, then there is good reason former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum and NBA newcomer Jeremy Lin are riding high. What is ago getting attention is they are crediting God for their success. “I’ve survived the challenges so far by the daily grace that comes from God,” Santorum said shortly after the Iowa caucuses. “For giving me His grace every day, for loving me, warts and all, I offer public thanks to God.” Since then, Santorum has had much to be thankful for. After being discounted shortly after the South Carolina primary in late January, Santorum has steadily risen to the top of state and national polls in the GOP quest for the White House. Lin’s success has taken a similar path. After a standout career at Harvard, few if any thought he would have an impact in professional basketball. Initially signed as a free agent, he was cut by a couple of clubs before being picked up by the New York Knicks. Then, after shooting a winning three-pointer last week to win the game, Lin commented, “I just thank my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for [...]
